In one of our recent initiatives of giving back to the society, we started supporting Richard Singh, our Logistics Manager, who has been with us for 21 long years. He is a half marathon runner, footballer, charity chairman and a loving son taking forward a cause initiated by his now-departed mother. He chairs the charity Selby Hands of Hope (SHOH) founded by his mother. We were pleased to support Selby Hands of Hope this year with sponsoring their running shirts for the Great North Run of 2018.
Great North Run is one of the largest half marathons which is organised in September every year. It was founded by Brendan Foster, former Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist in 1981. In its first run, 12000 runners attended the event and ever since the number has been growing, hitting the 57000 runners mark in the recent event held on 9th September 2018.
Great North Run holds several records such as Guinness World Records for highest participant attendance. Mo Farah made the record of winning the event five times consecutively by achieving the first position again this year in 2018. The record for finishing the marathon quickest are held by Martin Mathathi (KEN) (Men’s category) and Mary Keitany (KEN) (Women’s category) in time of 58:56 minutes and 1:05:39 hour respectively. In 2014, on the 34th Great Run event, the milestone of 1 millionth runner crossing the finish line was achieved by Tracey Cramond. The Great North Run was the first International Athletics Association Event (IAAF) event in the whole world to have such a reputation.
Some of the biggest brands fight over the coveted sponsorship rights to event with almost every runner running for the charity. At JPT we are really proud to be able support Selby Hands of Hope, not only because of Richards’ Chairmanship but also because it’s a charity that does great work in our town.
When Richard started running for such a prestigious half marathon event representing Selby Hands of Hope, it was but natural for Just Paper Tubes to support him in all his fundraising initiatives. Hence, over the years, we’ve become as involved in the event as Richard and have recently sponsored the SHOH T-shirts for the Great North Run half marathon.
We continuously partner with Selby Hands of Hope who have been successful in raising more than 1 million pounds so far! The whole team at JPT is very proud of the work Selby Hands of hope carry out in our region.
JPT has been focusing on its business growth initiatives and understands well that good community support can contribute to sustainability. Thus, JPT has been keen on taking up similar initiatives where it can make a mark by working for the community at large and providing help to those who need it.
In 2018 we plan to partner with two charities; Selby Hands of Hope and Young Enterprise; and Enterprise education charity.
We wish Selby Hands of Hope lots of success in all their fundraising endeavors and look forward to partnering with SHOH in the upcoming charity events.
